The work did not.

Who has
the next step?

You return from court. Opposing counsel will circulate the draft, your assistant is watching for it, and client advice still needs preparing. “Follow up on the order” leaves too much of that handover unstated.

A useful record says who owes the draft, what it must be checked against and who reviews it next. When it arrives, the receipt chase ends and the wording review begins.

NISI connects the outstanding item to the matter record and prepared work. This example brings a discrepancy between the attendance note and draft order to counsel, with both sources in reach.

Your assistant has the next task. You have the wording that needs a decision.

The Harbour matter

The draft is in.
One term needs review.

The fictional attendance note and draft wording differ. Neither source is silently treated as the settled order.

Harbour / Order follow-through
1 / Draft expected

The draft is with opposing counsel.

The attendance note records opposing counsel’s undertaking to circulate a draft. The next check concerns receipt of that draft.

Read the attendance-note excerpt

“Disclosure period recorded as 30 days. Opposing counsel to circulate the draft order. Review wording against the attendance record before approval.”

Begin with the draft expected after the appearance.

arrives.

Does receiving the draft close the follow-up?

It closes the receipt question. Review, approval and any later filing remain separate steps with their own status.

Does the example establish a Court deadline?

No. It illustrates a discrepancy in fictional records. Counsel must establish the governing terms and relevant dates from the proper sources before relying on a deadline.

Are follow-up messages sent automatically?

No. This demonstration prepares an internal review note. Counsel still needs to settle the wording and authorize any communication.
