An MIT package brings the relevant filed materials together for the regular FFP process. It is more than the MIT Summary. Organise the court documents, required proof and supporting material, then track filing, service and review separately. A prepared package is not yet a booked conference.
Build an inventory before filling gaps
Start with the request you want the Court to address. Beside each supporting document, note its title, version, filing status and what it helps establish. Keep rough notes in a separate working folder so they cannot be mistaken for a document already before the Court.
| Material | What to identify | Question to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Commencement material | The document starting the action and its service record. | Is the correct filed version included? |
| Mandatory-requirement records | Evidence of compliance, disclosure and any applicable court-granted waiver or deferral. | Which gap remains open? |
| MIT request and summary | The current official request and summary forms. | Do they accurately describe the present matter? |
| Application and supporting material | The relief requested and required affidavit or statements, where applicable. | Does the evidence address the request? |

The summary and the evidence do different jobs
The MIT Summary describes the matter using the official form. An application identifies the relief sought, while the supporting evidence must follow the applicable requirements. Putting a request in a personal note does not make that note the required application or evidence.
Fictional example: Taylor wants a different school-day pickup arrangement. The working folder contains a signed agreement, the school timetable and three emails about the proposed change. The inventory should distinguish the existing arrangement, Taylor’s requested change and the records supporting it. It should also identify the unanswered transport question. Sending all five files to the lawyer does not itself place them before the Court.

Filing is followed by service and proof
For the regular applicant route, the filed MIT package must be served and proof of service filed. The June manual explains that the package does not advance to Case Management Officer review without that proof. Keep these as separate recorded steps.
Use the current official instructions for the filing method, service, response periods and any corrections. The route for a respondent’s response or cross-application differs from preparing the initial request. Record the actual service date and its evidence; do not calculate a deadline from this general guide.

What happens at the review stage?
The Case Management Officer checks compliance. Certification leads to booking instructions; it does not decide the merits of the requests. Read any correction notice carefully and keep its timeframe with the outstanding items.
A practical status record might say: package filed / service completed / proof filed / correction requested / correction supplied / certified / conference booked. Attach the document that supports each status. If the last confirmed event is a correction request, do not describe the conference as ready to attend.

Questions you might have
Will the justice search the old court file for my documents?
The manual says the MIT justice works from the MIT packages. Do not assume that a document filed earlier elsewhere in the court record will automatically be included. Identify the relevant filed material when assembling the package.
Can I use this preparation sheet instead of the court forms?
No. It helps organise the work. Use the current official forms and instructions for filing and service; keep this blank working sheet separate.
What if I receive a package from the other party?
Record when and how it arrived, preserve the entire package and identify the relief being sought. The official manual explains response and cross-application options. Obtain prompt advice about the applicable response period rather than treating the conference date as the only date that matters.
